When it comes to beaches, Corfu is blessed. There are myriad options all around the island, from long, off-the-beaten-track expanses of fine sand, to small picturesque pebbly bays and idyllic coves. Many are child-friendly with gently sloping beaches with shallow waters, others are paradises for watersports enthusiasts. Many have little jetties, so you can arrive by boat if that's your preferred mode of travel, and the vast majority have a good selection of seafront tavernas and bars for when it's time to eat or toast the sunset with an aperitif.

Walking is the best way to adjust to Corfu’s languid pace, and it’s essential for finding uncrowded beaches. Even if you’re based in frenetic Kavos, a 40-minute walk south leads you to Arkoudilas Beach, an unspoilt cove with white cliffs and clear water. As in several spots around the island, the beach’s mud and sand are used as a DIY spa treatment. Do as locals do: anoint your skin with mud, bask in the sun, and rinse off in the sea.
